1189 Safety Design Integration Workshop Papers & Presentations

Each year the Safety Analysis Working Group (SAWG) hosts a workshop to give safety professionals an opportunity for training, information exchange and productive interactions within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) community. The unique workshop is the only national forum of its type that brings together significant policy makers, line managers, analysts, trainers, and prominent safety specialists. Also attending are distinguished speakers and reviewers and approvers of DOE safety basis-related activities, application and documentation.
This year's workshop is co-hosted by Fluor Hanford and DOE's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and will be held at the Red Lion "Hanford House" in Richland, Washington from May 3 to 8, 2008. It is SAWG's 18th annual workshop. Our theme for the 2008 Safety Analysis Workshop is "The Nuclear Renaissance – Safety Analysis for the New Nuclear Age". It focuses on the issues facing a resurgent nuclear industry, which within the DOE community encompasses safety challenges related to programs, licensing, resources, training, and education.
The Workshop will offer
- Technical training classes and lessons-learned sessions
- SAWG subgroup and interest group meetings
- An Opening Plenary Sessions and Keynote Speaker
- Workshop Paper and Panel Sessions
- A Closing Plenary Session (May 8)
- Exhibits, poster displays, tours, and social activities throughout the entire workshop.
Presentations will include
- Exchange of successful nuclear safety practices, procedures, and lessons learned
- Identification, discussion, and resolution of issues or barriers to success in nuclear safety
- Training of safety analysis, engineering, and operations personnel and management.
Who should attend
Attendees will benefit in many ways from the training, technical presentations, poster sessions, panel discussions, training courses, exhibits, and special events. We especially encourage facility engineers, managers, and senior line managers to join us for this exciting workshop. Your experience and perspectives will contribute to a high-quality workshop and our ongoing efforts to attract and develop new engineers, scientists, mathematicians, and safety specialists.
